One More Box

ONE MORE BOX THE VOLUNTEER LOADED
HE WAS WEARY, EXHAUSTED BEYOND BELIEF
AN UNENDING LINE OF CARS AND TRUCKS
WAITING PATIENTLY, SEEKING HELP AND RELIEF

ONE MORE BOX FROM THE LOCAL PANTRY
BREAD, CANNED GOODS OF ALL KINDS
THE HOMELESS, NEEDY, RECENTLY LAID OFF
SEEKING ANYTHING THAT THEY COULD FIND

ONE MORE BOX FULL OF URGENT HOPE
NO ONE TONIGHT WOULD GO HUNGRY
A FULL BOX OF  FOOD TO TIDE THEM OVER
AS THE VIRUS ROAMS THIS COUNTRY

ONE MORE BOX FILLED WITH KINDNESS
GIVEN FREELY, NO STRINGS ATTACHED
REMOVED WITH LOVE FROM THE STOREHOUSE
SORTED, PACKED FROM A DONATED BATCH

ONE MORE BOX THE VOLUNTEER HEFTED
AND THEN LOADED IT WITH A SMILE
RECEIVED THANKS, WATCHED TEARS FLOW
IT MADE HIM TURN, CRY A LITTLE WHILE

ONE MORE BOX THEN DAY WAS OVER
HE SAT DOWN TO GET SOME REST
TOMORROW WOULD BE MORE OF THE SAME
AND HE KNEW HE’D DO HIS VERY BEST

ONE MORE BOX HE LATER THOUGHT
AND HE KNEW THAT IT WAS GOOD
HIS MINISTRY, THE CHURCH FOOD PANTRY
AND HE WOULD DO ALL THAT HE COULD
