Legions On Assignment

“Benias! Sound the alarm!”

Benias lifted his shofar to his mouth and blew it as hard as he could. The crisp call resounded throughout the park.

“Keep blowing! Help is coming. The Master has sent help! I can see them descending now. Look! Here comes the Triumphant Legion, and the Victorious Legion is right behind them,” shouted Clarisius.

“We must stand our ground! Be prepared for anything,” added Molesius.

What had started out being a normal day had quickly disintegrated. They were on assignment, along with the rest of the guardian angels, at the annual church picnic. It was held at the local park and everybody always planned to be there. They had stood back and watched while the congregation had a good time. After the pitch-in-meal, a softball game was started. Everybody played, young and old, getting a chance to bat. Good-natured teasing could be heard from everyone.

“Pastor! You couldn’t hit that ball if your salvation depended on it!” teased an elder who was the catcher crouched behind him.

“Oh yeah! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”

“We’ll see,” came the reply.

Elsewhere mothers were watching the little ones, and grandparents were sitting in lawn chairs, watching the game.

“Who is that?” asked one of the women while pointing off into the distance.

“I don’t know who they are,” answered another.

They could see a couple of people walking their way. As they got closer, they could see it was a man and a woman.

“I’ve never seen them before.”

“Look how they’re dressed. Why do people want to dress like that?

“I wouldn’t let my kids dress like that”

“Now it’s not our place to judge. Only the Lord can do that.”

“I know, I’m just curious. I wonder if they are hungry. We have plenty left over.”

“I’ll ask.”

The woman approached them, talked for a moment, and then came rushing back. She had a terrified look on her face.

“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know for sure. I felt very uncomfortable around them. There’s something wrong. I can sense it in my spirit,” she answered.

“Go get pastor!”

The pastor was glad to be rescued. He had struck out and the teasing was non-stop. He joined the ladies and listened to them.

“Pastor, that couple over there,” they said while pointing in their direction, “There is something wrong. We can sense it in our spirit.”

“I’ll go talk to them. Maybe there’s something I can do to help,” he said while turning toward them.

As he neared them, the Holy Spirit began speaking to him, telling him what he was walking into.

“Hello, my name is Rod Jenkins. I’m the pastor of this congregation. Can I help you? Is there anything you need?”

The couple stared at him.

“Are you all right?”

Again, there was no answer.

As the pastor stood there he noticed something strange. Their eyes took on a vacant look as if no one was there. Their faces became pale and they began to tremble uncontrollably. The pastor recognized it immediately. Silently praying for guidance, he waved his hand to summon some help.

“Foul spirits! Who are you?” he demanded.

The man spoke in a deep guttural tone, “I am the Brimstone Legion.”

The woman spoke after him, “I am the Fiery Legion.”

By this time his congregation had gathered around him and the couple.

As they watched the couple, they could see hatred in their eyes. The man began foaming at the mouth and he balled his fists. The woman glared at them and made a menacing approach. Sensing it was going to get violent, the pastor motioned for male members of his church to subdue them. Normally he would ask permission before touching them, but these were extreme measures.

Taking authority, he laid his hands on the couple and spoke,” In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out now!”

“Get ready,” ordered Clarissius, “we must stop Satan’s demons from attaching themselves to others.”

The heavenly legions had surrounded the scene, waiting for the demons to appear before them.

As each demon departed it was met by an angel. The resistance was tremendous. The demon didn’t want to leave, but it had no choice. Cowering and whimpering before the angel, it scampered away with the angel in hot pursuit. As each demon left its safe sanctuary, the demeanor of the person it resided in changed. Sweat poured from their brow, they trembled and cried during the whole ordeal.

When the last demon finally left, him being in charge of the others and also the strongest, the person collapsed in the middle of the congregation. Each was surrounded by praying church members. The pastor took them by the hand and spoke.

“You must be born again. It is the only way to fight off Satan and his demons. We cast them out of you in Jesus' name. Now, are you ready to meet Jesus? He is the only thing keeping the demons from coming back to you.”

Crying, the couple nodded yes and the pastor led them to Christ. They were hugged by everyone and made comfortable.

“Welcome to the family of God! Are you hungry? I’m sure you are. Going through what you just did takes a lot out of you. Ladies, see if we can rustle something up for them to eat.”

“Benias, blow recall! There’s no need of the Legions now. They may be needed somewhere else,” ordered Clarisius.

“It always amazes me when the demons see us. The fear in their eyes is something to see. They know they can’t defeat us,” added Molesius.

“Yes, they always tuck their tails and run. They have to. They know who the Master is,” said Clarisius.

“Look! There’s Tabonius and Euchaneus! Jesus has assigned them to the couple.”

They watched as the guardian angels took up their posts behind the couple.

“Good! Now, everybody go back to your assignment. You know that Satan will try again. He always does.”

“We’ll be ready. We have to protect our assignment!”

Clarisius smiled and nodded. The Master will be pleased.
