The Good Samaritan
THE LITTLE OLD LADY APPEARED
AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT
HEADING FOR HER CAR SHE WAS
A MEDIAN WAS AS FAR AS SHE GOT
A CANADIAN GOOSE FLEW UP
AND ON HER SHOULDERS IT DID LAND
FLOGGING, HISSING, PECKING HER HEAD
TREMBLING, SHE TRIED TO STAND
NINETY POUNDS SHE MIGHT WEIGH
HOLDING A GOOSE OF TWENTY POUNDS
DROPPING HER BAGS, KEYS IN FEAR
WEIGHT FORCING HER TO THE GROUND
OUT OF THE TRUCK I RACED TO HELP
SHOUTING AND WAVING MY HAT
STARTLED, THE GOOSE BACKED OFF
ME WISHING I HAD A BASEBALL BAT!
I HELPED THE LADY INTO HER CAR
A LOOK OF GRATITUDE I RECEIVED
THE GOOSE WATCHED AND WAITED
FOR A CHANCE TO GET ME, I BELIEVE
OF GETTING “GOOSED” I HAD HEARD
AND OF HOW PAINFUL IT CAN BE
NOW MY CONCERNS BECAME VERY REAL
AS THAT GOOSE SET ITS SIGHTS ON ME
UP IT ROSE, FLUTTERING OVER MY HEAD
LOOKING FOR A GOOD PLACE TO LAND
SELF PRESERVATION CAME TO MY MIND
I PREPARED TO DEFEND THIS OLD MAN
SUDDENLY PEOPLE CAME RUNNING
TO HELP ME FIGHT OFF THAT NASTY BIRD
SAYING I WAS THE SECOND THAT DAY
TO BE ATTACKED, CAUSING QUITE A STIR
INQUIRING, I WAS TOLD A WEEK LATER
IT WAS PROTECTING IT’S NESTING MATE
AUTHORITIES HAD REMOVED THE PAIR
RELOCATION WAS TO BE THEIR FATE
NOW FEDERALLY PROTECTED THEY MAY BE
AND RETALIATION MUST BE KEPT IN CHECK
BUT ONE THING I KNOW FOR CERTAIN
I WOULD HAVE WRUNG THAT GOOSE’S NECK!!!
